# Budgeting

> How Commander Finance tracks spending against budget lines, and how Tracking, Targets, and Envelope modes change what each line measures.

Budgeting in Commander Finance organizes transactions into budget lines, then measures activity against a baseline that depends on the budget mode. Commander supports three modes, and you can switch between them at any time.
