# Finding and filtering transactions

> Narrow the Transactions list by date, account, budget line, or merchant, search the loaded rows, and read the in/out/net summary strip.

In Commander Finance, the **Transactions** page lists every transaction in your workspace. A filter bar, a search box, and a running summary strip narrow the list to the transactions you care about. See [Transactions](/core-concepts/transactions) for what each transaction holds.

## Filtering the list

Click **+ Filter** in the toolbar to open the filter bar; the button reads **− Filter** while the bar is open. You can filter by four fields:

* **Date range**—a From and To pair. Commander caps the From date at your current To date and floors the To date at your current From date, so the range can't invert.
* **Account**—one or more accounts.
* **Budget Line**—one or more budget lines, plus a **None** option matching transactions you haven't categorized yet.
* **Merchant**—one or more merchants, plus a **None** option matching transactions with no linked merchant.

Each active filter appears as a chip below the toolbar. Remove a single chip with its **×**, or reset everything with **Clear filters**.

Filtering runs on the server, so it narrows your entire transaction history—not just the rows already on screen—and the list reloads from the first page each time you change a filter.

## Searching the loaded rows

The search box, labeled `Search loaded transactions...`, matches the merchant name, the name shown in the list, and the original description from your bank—so a search for `coffee` finds both a merchant named Blue Bottle Coffee and a bank line that reads `SQ *COFFEE CART`.

Search covers loaded rows only, because Commander has no server-side transaction text search. When nothing matches what's loaded, the list reads `No matches in the N transactions loaded so far` and offers two actions:

* **Search more transactions**—pulls the next batch into the search scope, for when the match sits further back in your history.
* **Clear search**—exits the search and restores the full list.

## Reading the summary strip

Above the list, a strip sums the transactions currently shown into three figures:

* **In**—the total of positive amounts, money coming in.
* **Out**—the total of negative amounts, money going out.
* **Net**—**In** plus **Out**.

The strip sums exactly what's on screen, and a caption names that scope so the totals never mislead: `All 42 transactions` when every transaction is loaded, or `First 50 of 213 transactions` when the server holds more than are loaded. While you're searching, the caption reflects the matched rows instead.

## Date groups

When the list is sorted by date—the default—transactions group under headers such as **Today**, **Yesterday**, or a specific date like **June 15**. Sorting by any other column shows a flat list with no date headers. On phones the header stays pinned to the top of the screen as you scroll its group; on wider screens it sits inline above its transactions.

## Deleting a transaction from the list

On a touch device, swipe a transaction row left and confirm to delete it. Swiping is a shortcut for deletion only—every action, delete included, is also available from the transaction's detail page, which you open by tapping the row.
