Commander offers two paths to the Budget Settings page. The first route takes you through the Budget page by
clicking “Budget” in the sidebar, then clicking the three-dot icon in the upper right corner of the Budget page, and
selecting “Budget Settings” from the menu. The second route goes directly through Settings by clicking “Settings” in the sidebar
and then selecting “Budget Settings” from the settings menu.
The Cycle section on the Budget Settings page displays your current cycle type, start date, and timezone. Click the “Update Cycle”
button to open an overlay form where you can modify any of these three settings. The form displays all six cycle type options as
radio buttons, those being Yearly, Quarterly, Monthly, Semi-Monthly, Biweekly, and Weekly.
Select your desired cycle type by clicking the corresponding radio button. The budgeting cycle start date field accepts today’s
date or any date in the past using the date picker—Commander prevents future date selection to maintain data integrity. The
timezone field provides a searchable dropdown of full timezone names formatted by city, such as New York or London.Click “Save” to apply your changes. Commander updates all three settings simultaneously and closes the form. The Budget Settings
page immediately reflects your new configuration.
Cycle changes take effect immediately and recalculate statistics across your entire budget history. Modifying the cycle type
alters how Commander groups transactions into periods, which affects graphs and calculations on Budget Line Detail pages.
Changing the start date shifts when cycles begin and end, and determines which transactions Commander prompts you to assign to
budget lines—transactions dated before the start date remain counted in your budget but no longer trigger assignment reminders.
Timezone changes affect when Commander rolls over from one day to the next but don’t impact transaction grouping or
calculations otherwise. These changes apply retroactively to all historical data, meaning past cycle statistics recalculate based on your new settings.
Mode-specific data like envelope balances and target amounts remain unchanged regardless of cycle modifications.
