The bulk-edit modal in Commander Finance applies a single change to many transactions at once. Use it to assign a shared merchant or budget line, clear those assignments, or link a matching pair of transactions as an account transfer.

Opening the bulk-edit modal

The modal lives on every page that lists transactions, including the Transactions page, Unbudgeted Transactions, and Unlinked Transactions.
1

Enter multi-select mode

From any transactions list, click Select in the toolbar. Each row gains a checkbox.
2

Pick the transactions to edit

Check every transaction you want to change. The toolbar updates to show Edit (N), where N is your current selection count.
3

Open the modal

Click Edit (N). Commander opens the Bulk Edit Transactions modal with fields filled in from the selection.
4

Make your change and save

Adjust the fields described below, then click Save. Commander applies the change to every selected transaction and closes the modal.
Click Done in the toolbar to leave multi-select mode without making changes.

Choosing what to change

The modal has three controls:
  • Link as Account Transfer—available only when exactly two transactions are selected, they sit in different accounts, and their amounts are equal and opposite (one expense, one matching income). Checking the box links the pair as an account transfer and disables the merchant and budget line fields.
  • Target Budget Line—sets, keeps, or clears the budget line on every selected transaction.
  • Target Merchant—sets, keeps, or clears the merchant on every selected transaction.
The two Target fields fill in differently depending on the selection. If every selected transaction shares the same merchant or budget line, that value appears in the field. If the selection is mixed, the field starts blank.

Set, keep, and clear

Each Target field gives you three outcomes when you save: The keep outcome is the reason a blank field is safe on a mixed selection: Commander leaves each transaction’s existing assignment alone instead of overwriting every row with an empty value. The clear outcome only fires when the field started filled in and you explicitly emptied it.

Linking two transactions as a transfer

When you select exactly two transactions in different accounts with equal and opposite amounts—an expense in one account and the matching income in another—the Link as Account Transfer checkbox becomes available. Checking it tells Commander the two rows represent the same money moving between your accounts, not two separate transactions. Linking as a transfer disables the budget line and merchant fields, since transfers don’t belong to either. Commander uses the expense (negative-amount) transaction’s date as the transfer’s date.
