Banks report the same business under different names, so Commander Finance can end up holding two merchant records for one place. Merging moves every transaction onto the merchant you keep and deletes the other.
Merging can’t be undone.

Merging from the Merchants page

1

Find the duplicate

Open the Merchants page and locate the merchant you want to remove. A merge starts from the record that goes away, not from the one you’re keeping.
2

Open the merge form

In the row’s overflow menu, select Merge into….
3

Choose the merchant to keep

Under Target Merchant, pick the record that survives. Its name is the one you’ll see afterward.
4

Merge

Select Save.
The form closes and the list refreshes with one merchant carrying both sets of transactions. Commander merges one merchant at a time, so clear a third duplicate with a second merge. If the merge fails, the form stays open with the reason and keeps your selection, so you can try again without picking the target a second time.

Merging from the review queue

Newly detected merchants whose name or budget line you haven’t confirmed collect on the Merchants needing review page, which you reach from Review beside the roster’s Needs review count. Each row there offers Merge into another merchant, which opens the same form.

Merging, renaming, and deleting

The three actions look similar and do different things to your transactions:
  • Merge when two records describe one business. The transactions move to the merchant you keep.
  • Rename when a single merchant carries the wrong name. Renaming changes the displayed name and leaves transactions alone.
  • Delete when a merchant shouldn’t exist at all. Deleting unlinks its transactions, which then belong to no merchant.
