A goal tracks progress toward a target or a habit. You create one in Commander Finance from the Goals page or from a Goals section, and the goal stays attached to whatever it tracks.

Creating a goal

Where you start decides which anchors you can pick:
  • From the Goals page—tap New Goal in the page header. The wizard opens on the anchor step, so you choose what the goal tracks.
  • From the Budget page—tap New Goal in the Goals section. The wizard opens on the anchor step here too.
  • From the Home page, a budget line, or an account—tap New Goal in that page’s Goals section. The anchor is already set—your workspace, that line, or that account—so the wizard skips ahead to the goal type step.
1

Choose what the goal tracks

On the anchor step, pick Accounts, Budget lines, or Whole workspace. Accounts and budget lines let you search and select one or more, and the goal tracks them together. Skip this step when you started from the Home page, a budget line, or an account.
2

Pick a goal type

Choose what the goal should work toward—a spending cap, a savings amount, a streak, and so on. The anchor you picked narrows the list. Only the types your budget mode tracks appear by default; tap Show all goal types to reveal the rest, shown disabled with the reason they don’t apply.
3

Set the target and timing

Fill in the fields the chosen type needs—a target amount, a deadline, a per-cycle minimum, or a reduction rule. Fund a line consistently and Keep a contribution streak set their target as Cycles to reach, a count of qualifying cycles rather than an amount. A Keep a contribution streak goal also asks for Minimum each cycle. A goal that builds a balance toward a target amount also offers Keep tracking after the target is met, which decides whether the goal completes or keeps holding the target. The Goals page lists which types those are.
4

Name and confirm

Commander suggests a name you can edit, and you can add a description and pick a color. Review the summary, then tap Create goal.
The goal appears on the Goals page and in the Goals section of whatever it tracks—the Home page for a workspace goal, or the budget line or account otherwise—with its first status reading.

Managing a goal

  • Open—tap a goal row anywhere it appears—the Goals page, or a Goals section on any other page—to open the goal’s own page, which shows its full progress reading, what each tracked account or budget line contributes, and its settings.
  • Edit—tap Edit on the Settings panel of the goal’s own page. From a Goals section on any other page, choose Edit Goal in the row’s overflow menu instead. You can change the name, description, color, target, and timing. The goal type and start date are fixed once the goal is created. A goal that tracks a balance also offers Reset the baseline, which measures progress from the current balance instead of the original starting point.
  • Pause or resume—open the goal’s overflow menu and choose Pause Goal or Resume Goal. A paused goal keeps its history but stops tracking until you resume it.
  • Archive—open the overflow menu, choose Archive Goal, and confirm. Archiving stops the goal’s tracking and frees the items it tracked for other goals of the same type. The goal keeps its history and moves under the Archived filter on the Goals page.
  • Restore—open an archived goal’s overflow menu and choose Restore Goal. The goal starts tracking again from the baseline it already had, and reclaims the items it tracked. If another goal of the same type has taken one of those items since, the restore fails and the goal stays archived—edit or archive the other goal to free the item, then restore again.
An archived goal’s menu offers Restore Goal in place of Pause Goal and Archive Goal, which do nothing to a goal that has already stopped tracking. See Goals for what each status means.
